Car drives off after critically injuring skateboarder

Ambulance Arrives at HospitalSAN DIEGO — Police were on the lookout Wednesday for the driver who struck a skateboarder at an East Village intersection then sped away, an officer said.

The 23-year-old skateboarder suffered life-threatening head injuries in the crash shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 16th Street and Broadway, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

Delimitros said the driver of a light-colored four-door Hyundai sedan was headed southbound on 16th Street and crossed into the intersection on a green light, struck the young man then left the scene.
