Man killed when friend drops gun

SAN DIEGO – A 21-year-old man was fatally shot while being shown a gun that fell and accidentally fired early Sunday in the Bay Ho neighborhood, a police lieutenant said.

Bay Ho Fatal ShootingPolice and paramedics were called to the 4900 block of Gallatin Way near Delta Place about 1 a.m. and found the mortally wounded man lying on a residence’s front lawn, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper torso, San Diego police Lt. Mike Hastings said.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to Hastings. His name was withheld pending family notification.

Witnesses told police the victim’s long time friend was showing him a gun, when it fell to the ground and discharged, Hastings said.

Hastings said investigators were questioning the victim’s friend.

Anyone with information was asked to call the San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293, or Crime Stoppers at 888-580- 8477.

    Bullshit!! Guns just don't fall and go off. They have safety features that prevent such a thing!

      I can vision a dropped gun shooting someone in the ankle but not in the chest. The description of this "accident" doesn't add up IMO..

    I don't know whether this was an accident or not but I can say one thing that the major reason accidents relating to guns is the easy availability to even small kids who take the gun to schools and express their frustration by firing on other children. All this has to change and the possession of guns and other such life threatening weapons must be restricted.
