LA JOLLA, Calif. — Surveillance cameras recorded two burglars smashing the display window at a luxury car dealership in La Jolla early Monday and stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of luxury watches, police said.

bentleyBreakinOfficers were notified that a burglary alarm was going off at Symbolic Motors at 7440 La Jolla Blvd. at 2:51 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher.

Investigators said the burglars shattered a floor-to-ceiling window and headed straight for the watch display case. One of the Brietling watches take had a retail price of more than $60,000, according to one of Symbolic’s owners.

“I’d estimate the value to be somewhere in the neighborhood of about a $100,000 in watches and $150,000 in total damages,” said Rick Ahumada, Sales Manager at Symbolic Motors.

The dealership sells Bentley luxury cars, and Bentley has a marketing relationship with the Breitling watch company. The four expensive watches were being displayed at the car dealership on consignment from a local jewelry store.

Symbolic Car Break-InThe dealership has security cameras, and detectives were waiting to review video of the break-in.

This is not the first time Symbolic Motors has been targeted by thieves, the owner said.  Robbers took hostages during a botched robbery at the dealership about 10 years ago, but they were caught, he said.

Symbolic would be open for business as usual Monday, the owner said. The Bentleys on  display sell for about $220,000, the dealer said.
