San Diego’s Race for the Cure raises $1.1M

SAN DIEGO – Around 13,000 people participated in the 17th annual Komen San Diego Race for the Cure 5K at Balboa Park to raise money for breast cancer research.

ASusan Koman Walk_1n expo in association with the event kicked off at 6:30 a.m. on the west side of the park along Sixth Avenue, and a ceremony for survivors is started at 7:30 a.m.

According to Komen San Diego, around $1.1 million was raised with 75 percent of the proceeds going to San Diego’s breast cancer education programs, outreach, screening, treatment and services for the uninsured.

The remaining proceeds go to national research.

    Where does the money go and how exactly is it spent ???

    Before I do any more of these fundraisers I would like to know.
