Gunshots prompt evacuation in La Jolla

SAN DIEGO — San Diego police evacuated part of a condominium complex near the University of California San Diego Friday after a resident reported that a bullet came through his wall.

Police received a report of gunshots inside a unit at a complex at 3256 Via Marin at about 9:30 a.m. A resident said he heard several shots in an adjoining unit and at least one bullet flew through his wall, SDPD Lt. Kevin Meyer said.

Officer streamed into the complex and evacuated units on the east side as a precaution, the lieutenant said.

Authorities were trying to contact the resident believed to have fired the shots. He had been seen pacing inside his apartment, the Meyer said.

The standoff was ongoing as of 11:45 a.m.
