sheriffENCINITAS, Calif (CNS) – A man walking home from an Encinitas bar early Friday was struck into unconsciousness by an unknown assailant who apparently used a miniature baseball bat, authorities said.

The man said he was walking home on North Coast Highway 101 around 1:30 a.m. when he felt two blows to his head, fell to the ground and passed out, according to San Diego County sheriff’s Sgt. Richard George.

He awoke later to find he was bleeding and he had lacerations on the front and the back of his head, the sergeant said in a statement.

“The victim did not see who assaulted him and was unable to provide suspect information,” George said. “A miniature baseball bat was located on the ground and is believed to be the weapon used in the assault.”

Paramedics took the man to Scripps La Jolla Hospital. He was expected to survive.

Nothing was reported taken from the victim.
