RAMONA, Calif. – A 50-foot box truck hauling cooking oil crashed on state Route 78 in Ramona, spilled the slick stuff onto the roadway, and prompted officials to shut down lanes and call in a cleanup crew, authorities said.
The truck overturned in the highway’s westbound lanes near West Haverford Road about 8:15 a.m. and began leaking the oil shortly after, according to the California Highway Patrol. It was unknown what caused the crash.
An ambulance was sent to the scene, but the extent of the driver’s injuries was not clear.
Authorities shut down lanes in both directions around 8:30 a.m. because of the spilled oil, according to the CHP.
