The SUV was reported Monday morning by someone who spotted it from the reservoir on the mountain side more than 100 feet below the Anderson Truck Trail, an unmaintained trail that is popular with mountain bikers.
Rescuers drove down the trail to the spot where the SUV apparently rolled off, then hiked down to the wreck. There were no one inside, and it was not clear if anyone had been in the vehicle when it rolled down the mountainside.
The rescuers’ reported that their own vehicle was in a precarious position. Hartland Fire officials were trying to determine how to get the crew and their vehicle safely off the mountainside. They said that unless the owner of the white SUV was willing to pay for the recovery of the wreck, it would be left where it is.
