HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) — Rioting broke out in Huntington Beach Sunday evening following the final day of the U.S. Open of Surfing, according to Huntington Beach police.
The violence occurred while officers were attempting to disperse crowds near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and First Street Sunday around 7:30 p.m.
There was damage to property, including several portable toilets that were pushed over, witness Francisco Gomez told KTLA.
Officers used pepper spray on individuals in the mob, Gomez said.
The melee began when there was a confrontation between a man and store security, according to Gomez.
