Car plunges off freeway

Car crashes off Highway 52

Firefighters work to extract an injured driver from his car.

SAN DIEGO — A driver was injured Friday when he veered off state Route 52 and the vehicle tumbled down a hill.

A blue sedan went off the road west of Mast Boulevard near Mission Trails Regional Park about 11:15 a.m., went down an embankment and rolled over, leaving a person trapped inside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A San Diego Fire-Rescue Department crew pulled the injured driver from the car. He was taken to a hospital, but his condition was unknown.

Traffic backed up in eastbound lanes, and the CHP issued an advisory.
