SAN DIEGO — A Tierrasanta woman found dead in her kitchen lived with a mentally ill adult son who had made violent threats before, neighbors told Fox 5.

Joan RobinsonJoan Robinson, a 78-year-old retired artist, was found dead in the kitchen of her home in the 4800 block of Tinasa Way, according to police and neighbors. Police were called Tuesday night by a concerned relative who discovered the body after going to the home to check on Robinson’s welfare.

Investigators said the body showed signs of blunt-force trauma. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, police said.

Robinson shared her home with an adult son named Dale, neighbor Donna Warlick said. The son suffers from some kind of mental illness and had made threats in the past, she added.

“We all were worried about this,” Warlick said. “We all were so worried about this. But you know, you worry about something so hard and so long, you just don’t ever think it’s going to happen.”

Robinson had lived in Tierrasanta for quite some time and frequently spent time with her grandchildren, Warlick said.

“She took care of her grand kids. She got up every day and went to work, went to take her grand kids to school,” Warlick said. “She’s an artist — beautiful artwork all through her house, even in her patio — and she was just a wonderful woman.”
