SAN DIEGO — Homicide detectives Wednesday were investigating the suspicious death of a 78-year-old woman in her Tierrasanta home.

Family members called 911 around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday to report they had found the woman’s body in her home in the 4800 block of Tinasa Way, according to San Diego police Lt. Mike Hastings.

They told officers they went to the home to check on the woman after they hadn’t heard from her in awhile, he said in a statement.

“Police officers made entry into the house and also saw that the family member was deceased and also that there was some blunt force trauma,” a police spokesman told Fox 5 News.  “We have a team of homicide detectives inside the residence at this time. We’re doing this for an abundance of caution. There’s still an awful lot of follow-up investigation to do.”

The woman was found lying on her kitchen floor , Hastings said.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
