Feds probe destruction of school district documents

trash at San Ysidro School DistrictSAN DIEGO – Federal agents were at a South Bay school district office Wednesday investigating a report of illegal destruction of documents, officials confirmed.

San Diego FBI special agent Darrel Foxworth told Fox5 that FBI agents and San Diego police officers responded to San Ysidro School District Office at 4350 Otay Mesa Road Wednesday after receiving information that documents were being shredded and burned.

Officers taped off a section of the office parking lot where a dumpster is located. Black trash bags placed near the dumpster allegedly had shredded documents and ashes from burned papers.

The school district is the subject of an investigation, along with two other South Bay school districts, into an alleged pay-to-play scheme in which  school officials accepted money and gifts from construction firms in return for multi-million dollar contracts with the districts.san ysidro school district Former and current school officials are facing hundreds of felony and misdemeanor criminal charges.

Authorities would not disclose additional details of the investigation.
