hikers-rescuedPOTRERO, Calif. — Authorities searched in the East County Tuesday for two lost hikers, who were found unharmed after about two hours.

Using a cell phone, the hikers called 911 about 5 a.m. and said they had no idea where they were after hiking around 18 miles, according to San Diego County sheriff’s Lt. Jason Rothlein.

They said they were feeling dehydrated, he said, adding that authorities continued to talk to the hikers by cell phone as they tried to find them.

The hikers were found unharmed at 7:12 a.m. in the area of Hauser Canyon, near Pacific Crest Trail Junction, he said.
