SAN DIEGO — Jessica Sanchez, the former Chula Vista resident who was the runner-up on the television program “American Idol” last year, released her debut album Tuesday.
“Me, You & The Music” has 11 tracks, and includes a duet with R&B singer- songwriter Ne-Yo on the lead single, “Tonight.” As of early Tuesday afternoon, it ranked fourth on the iTunes website.
On her Twitter account, Sanchez posted, “Oh my gosh!!! Me you and the music is doing so good on iTunes!!! I’m freaking out!!”
Since the end of her “Idol” competition, the 17-year-old has toured with other “Idol” performers, guest-starred on “Glee” and sang at the White House alongside President Barack Obama. She also moved with her family to Los Angeles to pursue her music career.
A review of “Me, You & The Music” on Idolator.com says she “not only highlights her undeniable vocal talent, but also showcases how much she has grown musically since her stint on Idol.”’
A customer review on Amazon.com gave her four stars and credits her “impressive vocal range.”
The half-Filipina and half-Mexican singer was rescued from near elimination during the “Idol” competition and captured the hearts of San Diegans and citizens of the Philippines. Watch parties took place weekly in Chula Vista and a welcome home celebration was held at Eastlake High School.
She is scheduled to perform May 10 at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista.
