Nearly half of the teams signed up for the qualifying rounds of the robotic competition at the Valley View Casino Center were from San Diego.
This year’s challenge involves creating a robot that can pick up frisbees and effectively throw them into a variety of goals within a 2 minutes, 15 second time constraint.
Teams are also awarded bonus points if their robot can climb to the top of a steel pyramid tower at the end of the match.
The qualifying matches are scheduled for Friday and Saturday and then the winners will move on to the April championships in St. Louis.
The event is free and open to the public.
