Escaped inmate captured at Oceanside motel

OCEANSIDE, Calif. – A 26 year-old man who somehow escaped from Theo Lacy Jail in Orange County was captured Saturday at a motel in Oceanside.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said Saith Na was located about 5:30 a.m. and taken into custody without incident.

“Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department followed up on information that Na was in the Oceanside area,” according to a department statement.

Guests at the Coast Inn told Fox 5 authorities swarmed into one of the rooms to get Na.

“I heard a loud bang on the door.  All I heard was ‘get on the ground, get the hell on the ground,’” said Roman Hudgens, a guest.

Hudgens said a couple of his friends had met Na for the first time just hours earlier and that they were in the room next door when authorities arrived.

After Na was taken away, Hudgens said investigators asked his friends what they were doing with Na.

“Asking them why he’s in their room.  They told him they just met him five hours before this all happened.  He said he was going to buy a room — he didn’t know anything about Oceanside,” said Hudgens.

Na was discovered missing Friday during a routine body count at the Theo Lacy jail, said Gail Krause of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

He was scheduled to go on trial March 12 on charges of possession of a gun by a felon, possessing a gun on school grounds, possession of a controlled substance while armed, and street terrorism, all felonies, according to court records.

He also faces sentencing enhancement allegations of street activity.
