Boy, 14, arrested after school gun threat

POWAY, Calif. — A ninth-grader at Poway High School was arrested for allegedly threatening to bring guns to school and kill another student, a sheriff’s sergeant said Friday.

The threatened boy told his mother about the suspect’s alleged comments when he got home from school Thursday and she notified the principal at the 15500 Espola Road campus, sheriff’s Sgt. Chad Boudreau said. Deputies from the sheriff’s station in Poway were notified of the alleged threat Thursday evening.

Detectives, the Poway Criminal Apprehension Team and the Poway Unified School District launched an investigation, which led to a 14-year-old suspect, Boudreau said.

Detectives contacted the boy at his home and took him into custody without incident, Boudreau said. The boy did not have access to firearms and investigators did not believe anyone else was involved in making the threat, the sergeant said.

The boy was later booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of making terrorist threats, Boudreau said. He added the case would be submitted to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Making a terrorist threat is a felony in California, Boudreau said.

Boudreau said anyone with information on the case can call the sheriff’s department’s non-emergency line at 858-513-2800.
