Woman in crosswalk hit by truck

SAN DIEGO — A 20-year-old woman who was struck by a truck near 10th Avenue and A Street Wednesday was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The woman was crossing 10th Avenue in the crosswalk at about 8:15 a.m. as a man in his 30s driving a red Dodge truck was turning left from 10th Avenue onto A Street, according to San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick.

She was briefly trapped under the truck and sustained a fractured pelvis, the sergeant said. The driver stopped after the crash, and alcohol was not involved, police said.

Authorities closed the intersection of 10th Avenue and A Street, along with westbound A Street at 10th. Avenue following the crash. Southbound state Route 163 into downtown San Diego was narrowed to one lane, San Diego police said.

The pedestrian was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center with life- threatening injuries, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said.

Police expected the roads to reopen at about 11:20 a.m.
