Pedestrian sent flying by hit-and-run driver

SAN DIEGO — San Diego police were on the lookout Tuesday for a driver who sped off after striking and seriously injuring a pedestrian in Hillcrest.

paramedicsThe hit-and-run accident at Sixth Avenue and Evans Place was reported at 8:19 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

A 49-year-old man was crossing the street when he was hit by a southbound brown four-door sedan, possibly a Toyota, Delimitros said in a statement.  the car had Illinois license plates. The driver did not stop and was last seen headed west on Pennsylvania Avenue, he said.

The impact of the collision sent the pedestrian flying, according to witnesses. He suffered an open arm fracture and a head injury, according to Delimitros.
