SAN DIEGO — A brush fire in a canyon in the University City area slowed traffic on Interstate 805 Tuesday evening, authorities reported.
The fire was reported at about 1:30 p.m. near Interstate 805 and Governor Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol. Police have closed off west bound Governor Drive at I-805, the CHP said.
Several fire crews were being aided by a water-dropping helicopter. About an acre burned. No structures were being threatened according to firefighters.
As of 2:30 p.m., firefighters had contained the blaze and were mopping up hot spots.

Previous to fire, work crews had been clearing brush out of the canyon. When I drove by, several had been smoking.
