Husband of fatally stabbed woman remains in custody

jail-cellSAN DIEGO — A San Diego man was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of fatally stabbing his estranged wife in a parking lot at a South Bay sheriff’s substation.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Marvin Dennis Duncan, 59, pressed an intercom button at a side door at the precinct house on Imperial Beach Boulevard, according to sheriff’s homicide Lt. Glenn Giannantonio.

When a deputy answered, Duncan, who was holding two toddlers, allegedly announced that he had just killed his 36-year-old wife, Rocio.

sheriff’s substationThe mortally wounded victim was found lying on the ground on the west side of the substation, the lieutenant said. She died a short time later.

Duncan was detained for questioning and later arrested. The children, who were unharmed, were taken into protective custody.

The motive was under investigation.

Duncan was being held at San Diego Central Jail without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
