ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Nearly 2,400 San Diego Gas & Electric customers in the Escondido area lost power early Friday but electricity was restored to most within two hours, according to the utility.

Three separate outages in the Escondido area occurred around 1:30 a.m. and all were initially expected to last until about 4 a.m., SDG&E reported on its website. But by 4 a.m., 228 customers in eastern Escondido remained without electricity.

The utility estimated power would be restored to the remaining 228 customers by 6:18 a.m.

The cause was under investigation.
