SAN DIEGO – Police arrested a man threatening to jump off an Interstate 805 overpass Friday which resulted in a six hour traffic jam north of National City, authorities said.
The man sat at the 43rd Street bridge over the northbound lanes of I-805 from 7:45 a.m. until San Diego police emergency negotiators took him into custody around 2:30 p.m., a SDPD dispatcher said.
Officer Frank Cali said the man would likely be taken to the county’s Mental Heatlh Services for an evaluation and it was unclear if he would face charges.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert at 8:39 a.m. for the northbound Interstate 805 lanes. The on-ramps from Plaza Boulevard and Sweetwater Road in National City were shut down. Southbound lanes of I-805 were closed later in the day.
