Lifeguards rescue driver from the Sweetwater River Channel

SAN DIEGO – Lifeguards were called out to National City on Wednesday, when a man crashed his car and became submerged in water in the Sweetwater River Channel.

CAR CRASHThe single-vehicle accident happened at SR-54 near the National City Boulevard exit.

According to CHP officials, the driver of the vehicle lost control for unknown reasons before landing in the water.

The car became submerged, but the driver was able to safely make it out, CHP officials said.

By 8:45 p.m., officials had determined that nobody else was inside the submerged vehicle.
