SAN DIEGO – A pelting rain Thursday loosened a large boulder and caused it to barrel down a steep hill and into the garage of a home in Poway.
The boulder estimated at about 5 feet in height smashed the back door to the garage at 9 a.m. and dislodged a propane tank. It came to a halt as it hit the opposite side of the garage, Poway Fire Division Chief Kevin Hitchcock said.
The homeowner was inside when the boulder slid down the hill.
“I heard some booming, like a plane flying over, but the sound was not normal,” the homeowner said. “The house didn’t shake, but a few items on shelves rattled.”
No injuries in the incident, said officials in Poway.
The area was heavily affected by Thursday’s rain storm, which soaked the area and left the ground unstable.
