Smuggling suspect eludes Border Patrol

Martel Valencia-CortezALPINE, Calif. — A suspected immigrant smuggler with a long rap sheet fled on foot from a traffic stop near Viejas Casino Friday, prompting an intensive manhunt in the surrounding hills and ravines.

U.S. Border Patrol officers spotted fugitive Martel Valencia-Cortez’s vehicle traveling through the Alpine area about 5 a.m. and tried to pull it over, according to USBP public affairs.

Valencia, the subject of a federal arrest warrant, pulled over and ran off, and the agents were unable to catch up to him.

Border Patrol personnel searched the area through the morning on the ground and aboard a helicopter, and set up a traffic checkpoint near where the suspect disappeared.

Officials believe Valencia may attempt to steal a vehicle in order to escape into Mexico. He has an extensive criminal record and a history of driving erratically — sometimes speeding the wrong direction on streets and freeways — to evade capture, according to the federal agency.

A dangerous career criminal involved in and with a history of ALIEN smuggling. Generally these same individuals also smuggle narcotics and weapons and money back to Mexico. It's what they do. Now Fox is bowing to the politically correct pressure to not use the word ALIEN, opting for the "immigrant smuggler!" Really, he is not involved in smuggling legal immigrant CITIZENS who are here legally with jobs or looking for jobs. They are ALIENS he is smuggling because they (ALIENS from around the globe and many are dangerous ALIENS, not just Mexican Nartionals hoping to return to their families for Christmas) are not present in the U.S. legally. There is a process to get here legally and it doesn't help minimizing the description of the inidviduals this crook is aiding and exploiting for money! Please stop pandering! If La Raza, Enrique Marones and the Border Angels, etc… were so concerned about the welfare of Mexican citizens trying to illegally enter the U.S., they should be focusing on the Mexican side of the border and encouraging them to apply and go through the citizenship process. Long but necessary! And something to be proud of! Bring back personal responsibility, accountability, and consequences. Please!

Others have reported that he has 35 prior apprehensions by the Border Patrol. Really?
