LA MESA, Calif. — Utility crews were working to restore water service to a neighborhood in La Mesa after they cut the supply to a ruptured water main early Tuesday.
The cast iron pipe, which was installed in 1945 according to one resident, broke on the corner of Fresno Avenue and Butte Street, .
Neighbors saw water gushing out from under the road around 1 a.m. and many moved their vehicles from the flooded street.
Helix Water District officials said crews will have to dig up an entire block to repair the underground pipe. Customers should get their water back by late morning.
